Polarization Correlations in the SLC Final Focus
نویسنده
چکیده
At the SLC, the electron beam polarization (P) is measured by a Compton poharimeter downstream of the Interaction Point. This measurement averages over the entire beam distribution and must be corrected for various correlations to calculate the luminosity (L) weighted polarization. Because the spin rotation in the ARC is energy dependent, off energy particles have lower polarization. These particles may also be poorly focused and contribute less luminosity due to the higher order chromatic optics of the final focus. The small vertical p function at the interaction point also causes an hour-glass -effect, where particles at the head and tail of the bunch have less luminosity. Since there is an energy-z correlation due to the compensation of longitudinal wakefields in the linac, these particles may also have lower polarization. The correlations are: z <---> E (linac), E <---> P (ARC), z <--> L (hour-glass) and E <--> L (chromaticity). The contributions from the z <---> E and z <--> L correlations are discussed.

First Bunch Length Studies in the Slc South Final Focus
We report the rst studies of bunch length in collision in an operating linear collider, making use of a new rf bunch length monitor installed in the South Final Focus of the Stanford Linear Collider (SLC) prior to the 1997/98 luminosity run. The theoretical and measured monitor responses to linac injection phase and bunch compressor voltage are described. Correlations with beamstrahlung and lum...

AJ3STR4CT The 1992 running cycle of the Stanford Linear Collider (SLC) showed that the orientation of the electron polarization vector at the interaction point was very sensitive to the vertical orbit in the north collider arc. We point out the reason for this sensitivity-the spin tune is equal to the vertical betatron tune. We devise a scheme of closed vertical orbit bumps which provide arbitr...
متن کاملCollimator Wake Fields in the Slc Final Focus*
The SLC final-focus system accommodates 29 fixed or adjustable collimators for machine protection and background reduction. By amplifying pulse-to-pulse orbit variations and by generating emittance growth, collimator wake fields may degrade the beam quality at the interaction point (IP). In the SLC final focus, collimator halfapertures are larger than the bunch length, so that the standard coll...
متن کاملRecent Luminosity Improvements at the SLC
The luminosity of the SLAC Linear Collider (SLC) has been increased by more than a factor of three during the 1997-98 run. Improved alignment and emittance tuning techniques throughout the accelerator resulted in minimal emittance growth from the damping rings to the final focus. In particular, a revised strategy for wakefield cancellation using precision beam size measurements at the entrance ...
متن کاملFlat Beam Spot Sizes Measurement in the Slc-final Focus*
With the switch to flat beam operation in the SLC during the 1993 run [1], it has become necessary to develop an algorithm that is capable of measuring the beam spot sizes at the Final Focus Interaction Point (IP). This algorithm uses the correct beam-beam deflection formula for the more general flat-beam case, since the round beam approximation is no longer valid [2]. The application of this f...
